Not Bright For A Job Interview But A Genius!

In the world today, there is more than meets the eye. Not everything looks at it seems.

There are great men, women, stars, and geniuses that are hidden behind a not so smart appearance, so before you pass on that man or woman looking for a job at your company that looks not so smart, think again!

I learned this from a personal experience. We were hiring an intern to join our technical department, there were two that came for the interview that day.

The first one we interviewed looked very smart and had a little bit of experience. Then I thought to myself, this must be our man.

The second one was far from smart, no experience at all and I was like no pass, but to my shock, my boss insisted on hiring the not so smart intern we interviewed.

Now this intern had zero knowledge & experience in the job. But there was one thing that stood out, he was someone humble and eager to learn. To my surprise, in a matter of a week or two, he learned things so fast and was very good at them. He became a valuable asset to our department.

Great things are most times hidden in obscure places. To get gold you have to dig real deep into the earth. Raw Diamond doesn’t shine like you see in jewelry, it has to be cut, processed and polished.

I happen to have an introvert friend who wasn’t so good at introducing himself, he hated and dreaded the words “Let’s meet you?” or “Tell me about yourself?”.

He normally wasn’t very articulate and messed up in the intro so badly. But this dude was a real genius, a hot brain, and a repository of knowledge or some sort.

Intelligence or IQ is a very dicey subject. I have seen very eloquent people that can speak English so well and sound professional, but if you give them a piece of paper to write what they are saying, the won’t be able to — they don’t know how to write! Some others can’t speak well are genius writers!

There’s this story I read online a while back, of a guy I can’t really recall the exact name of the person, went for an interview in a tech firm in Silicon Valley.

He didn’t do well in the interview, in fact, he failed the coding test and didn’t get the job because of the high standard placed by this company.

That same guy went and applied for a job at Amazon, he was hired and he’s a pioneer of most innovations and services you are familiar with Amazon today.

If you are reading this and you don’t appear or look so bright, don’t be discouraged, there is hope and a brighter future ahead.

The fact that you were turned down in getting a job, should not be a self-judgment yardstick for you.

Big companies are run by humans and humans are prone to make errors no matter how smart and intelligent. Only those with a “third eye” can see beyond what is in front of them.

Eyes that look are common, but eyes that see are rare.
